The Secretary General of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA), Dr. Master Matlhaope, was invited by Daystar University\u2019s Chancellor, Dr. Florence Muindi, Chair of Council, Prof. George Njoroge and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro, to speak at the university\u2019s Vice Chancellor’s Breakfast with eminent clergy in Nairobi on 26 August 2026. Daystar University, an associate member of AEA, held this auspicious event under the theme “Re-Engineering the Leadership DNA of the Church in Africa,” the gathering brought together leaders of church denominations, para-church organizations, and humanitarian bodies to deliberate on matters critical to leadership in the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading the devotion from Acts 13:16\u201322, Dr. Matlhaope anchored his message on the account of Israel’s leadership succession from Egypt through the judges, to Saul, and finally to David; the man of whom God testified, “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” He titled his reflection “Leadership is of God,” framing David as a paragon of good leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Matlhaope urged the clergy to internalize three fandemental truths about leadership: first, that leadership originates from God; second, that leadership is global and thirdly that leadership is timeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. He traced leadership and vision to their divine original source. From the very beginning, he said, God had a vision for the universe, revealing leadership as one of God’s own traits. Every leader should know that leadership is of God and should therefore seek to depend on God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. \u00a0Every godly leader should have a global vision-spanning the whole of creation.\u00a0 Dr. Matlhaope emphasized that leadership and vision are inseparable. “Show me a leader and I’ll show you a vision,” he said. Because of the global nature of vision, a good leader will multiple his or her leadership through others to meet the global vision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The SG then delved into the timelessness of godly leadership. Leadership outlives any single leader. “When leaders die, leadership continues,” he told the gathering, framing this truth as a call to action to prepare successors beyond one’s own tenure. This reality, Dr. Master said, should motivate us into action; action to prepare for leadership beyond ourselves, since it outlives us.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    “A leader who is leading after God’s own kind of leadership should have a broader vision, a vision beyond his or her denomination or nation. They should have a vision that is global because God’s vision in itself is global. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Secretary General further stated that, from Vision, follows mission, objectives and activities that should guide every resource towards accomplishing the vision. He also reframed the concept of stewardship; “Oftentimes, when we think about stewardship, we think about money, property and other material things,” he said. “The first call of your stewardship as a leader is the stewardship of leaders; the people you are supposed to identify and prepare.” God expects us, to put first and foremost resources towards leadership development, then everything else will be safe under a responsible leadership. He challenged the assembled leaders to embrace leadership by multiplication as the practical outworking of God’s global vision; identifying potential leaders within and beyond their own circles, and committing resources to their training and preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Closing his remarks, Dr. Matlhaope told the gathering that the very organization of the breakfast was itself an expression of the kind of leadership he was describing. “I’m sure we are here because Daystar University dreams of the leadership I have described: A broader, continental and global leadership. We’re here to appreciate and log in the God kind of vision; a vision that is global and beyond our individualities,” he stated.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
