Nessa resolu\u00e7\u00e3o, a Assembleia Geral observou que 2001 marcou o 50\u00ba anivers\u00e1rio da Conven\u00e7\u00e3o de 1951 sobre o Estatuto dos Refugiados. Em solidariedade \u00e0s Na\u00e7\u00f5es Africanas, as Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas adotaram o Dia Africano do Refugiado como Dia Mundial do Refugiado.
