AEA school project nears completion
In the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a humanitarian crisis (M23 Clashes) had disrupted the education of approximately 750,000 children in the conflict-affected provinces of North Kivu and Ituri. Over a period spanning from January 2022 to March 2023, a shocking 2,100 schools were compelled to cease operations due to the deteriorating security situation. The situation in the beginning of 2023 was most dire for the nearly 240,000 displaced children living in vast camps around Goma, where ongoing violence by armed groups had forcibly displaced families, preventing their children from accessing education. A partnership between AEA and Barnabas Aid led to the school construction project aimed at providing a new educational facility for 360 Christian children, including war orphans, and former child soldiers.
During the later stages of the project, it became clear that certain components were not included in the original budget plan. Thanks to Deo Volente’s donation of USD 10,250, we are now able to complete the first phase of the school project.
