AEA Visits Evangelical Polytechnic Higher Institute of Lubango

On 30th September 2024, the General Secretary and the Executive Secretary, accompanied by the General Secretary of the Angolan Alliance, visited the Evangelical Polytechnic Higher Institute of Lubango. During the visit, they were received by the Vice Chancellor and faculty members. The visit included a tour of the institution’s premises, followed by a brief meeting to discuss the institution’s current status and future plans. The key points discussed were as follows:

  1. Assuming Responsibility and Gathering Ideas
Since March, the leadership team has taken responsibility for the institution, focusing on gathering ideas to build projects that will foster its growth. Their approach includes identifying existing challenges and development opportunities to strengthen the institution and better serve the community.

  2. Compliance with Government Regulations
A major issue highlighted during the meeting was the recent changes in the country’s laws, which restrict institutions from operating outside government legislative frameworks. The leadership team discussed how they are adapting to these regulations, ensuring that their programs comply with government guidelines, particularly in the diversification of courses. They emphasized the need to remain within the scope authorized by the government, while still exploring ways to meet the community’s educational needs.

  3. Challenges with Faculty and Postgraduate Programs
One significant challenge facing the institution is the profile and number of teachers required for its operations. The institution is working to address this by identifying postgraduate programs that will qualify staff members and enhance the institution’s visibility. These efforts are expected to improve the quality of education provided and increase the institution’s value to society.

  4. Progress and Future Plans
The leadership team has shared its ideas with AE Angola and is working closely with government authorities to ensure compliance with regulations. While the diversification of courses remains a priority, they are careful to adhere to authorized areas. The institution’s leaders are confident that their commitment and strategic projects will meet the population’s needs and drive the institution’s growth.

  5. General Secretary’s Remarks
The General Secretary commended the institution for its unique approach, noting: ‘For the first time, we have seen a Christian institution that is not primarily focused on theological education, yet its foundation is clear, and this is commendable.’ He acknowledged the importance of integrating Christian values across all disciplines, referencing the model at Africa International University (AIU).

He stated: ‘At AIU, we offer a broad range of courses—including business, education, psychology, and biblical studies—all grounded in Christian principles. For example, a psychology student at AIU will study the subject comprehensively, while also being shaped by Christian values. This ensures we produce well-rounded professionals who are both knowledgeable in their field and deeply rooted in their faith.’

The General Secretary encouraged the Evangelical Polytechnic Higher Institute of Lubango to follow a similar approach, ensuring that while they diversify their course offerings, they maintain a strong biblical foundation.
  1. Commitment to Development
The leadership expressed their dedication to the institution’s development, stating that with the right planning and continued adherence to both government regulations and Christian principles, they are optimistic about the institution’s potential to positively impact society.
