Urgent Prayer Request for the Democratic Republic of Congo
The situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reached a critical point. As of now, the M23 rebel group has escalated their offensive, allegedly capturing Goma, a strategic city in the eastern region of the country. This has plunged the region into chaos, displacing thousands and leaving communities reeling under the weight of violence, uncertainty, and humanitarian crises. Hospitals are overwhelmed, roads are blocked, and countless families are fleeing for safety. As Christians, we are called to intercede and stand with those in need, and today, the DRC cries out loud for our prayers and support.
The roots of this conflict run deep, shaped by decades of tension and instability. The M23 group, claims to protect a certain ethnic group out of about 400 groups, and has inflicted devastation on countless innocent lives. Governments are strained, diplomatic ties are frayed, and the international community struggles to find effective solutions.
As followers of Christ, we recognize that prayer can move mountains where human efforts fall short.
– Pray for Peace first and foremost in the DRC. The Bible reminds us in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Let us lift up the peacemakers working tirelessly in this volatile region—whether they are local leaders, humanitarian workers, or international diplomats.
– Pray that God will guide their efforts to bring about reconciliation and a cessation of hostilities.
– Pray for the over six million displaced. Entire families have been uprooted from their homes, wandering in search of refuge.
– Pray for their protection and provision. May God’s hand be upon the children, women, and elderly who are most vulnerable in this crisis.
– Ask the Lord to raise up His church to be a refuge and support for those who are suffering and to be a paragon of peace.
– Pray for the right type of leadership who can rise to the occasion. Pray for the leaders of the DRC, Rwanda, and the surrounding nations involved in this conflict. Ask God to grant them wisdom and humility to act justly and seek peaceful resolutions.
– Pray also for the United Nations and other international bodies involved in mediation and aid, that they will act with integrity and effectiveness.
– Pray for the Church. The body of Christ in Africa has a unique role to play. Churches in the DRC are not just places of worship but also sanctuaries for the displaced, centres of hope, and voices for peace. Pray that the church in the DRC will be strengthened and unified in this time of crisis. May pastors and leaders be empowered to speak courageously and minister compassionately.

– Let us also pray for revival, that even in the midst of turmoil, many will come to know Christ as their Savior.
– Pray Against Evil. Finally, we must stand against the spiritual forces of darkness that fuel violence and oppression. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Let us pray fervently that God will expose and dismantle the evil schemes behind this conflict.
– Pray for appropriate Action. As we pray, let us also be moved to action. Support humanitarian efforts, advocate for justice, and spread awareness about the situation in the DRC.
– As we continue to pray together, let us also see how we can gather resources to support to our brothers and sisters in need.
In moments like this, we are reminded of our interconnectedness as the body of Christ. When one part suffers, we all suffer. As we pray let us be filled with hope and faith of healing that Christ offers. Let us stand together as evangelicals in Africa, lifting up the DRC in fervent prayer. May God’s peace reign over this nation, and may His justice prevail.
