UM APELO À ORAÇÃO PELAS ELEIÇÕES NA ÁFRICA
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the coming months, millions of our fellow Africans will go to the polls. The earliest is Zambia, that goes to the polls on 13th August 2026. Before the year ends, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon and South Sudan will follow, with South Sudan preparing for its first election since independence.
Elections test the depth of our peace, our institutions and our witness as the Church. God is sovereign over the nations (Daniel 2:21), and He commands His people to seek the welfare of the city (Jeremiah 29:7). The Association of Evangelicals in Africa therefore, calls every National Evangelical Fellowship, every congregation and every believer to intercede for each of these nations as their hour comes.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
We begin with Zambia, where citizens will elect a president, parliament and local leaders. We call the Church across Africa to pray for a peaceful, truthful and credible poll: that campaigns and results pass without violence, that electoral institutions and courts act with honest scales (Proverbs 11:1), that truth prevails over incitement and falsehood, and that leaders emerge who will govern with humility and defend the cause of the poor (Psalm 72:4). Pray too for the Church in those countries, that they may speak with one prophetic voice and shine as salt and light in this season (Matthew 5:13-16).
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
