The General Secretary of the National Association of Evangelicals in Ghana, Passes on
We are saddened to receive the sad news of the death of the General Secretary of the National Association of Evangelicals in Ghana (NAEG), Pastor Divine Kumah. Pastor Divine was pronounced dead on the 15th of January, 2017, after a short illness. At the time of his demise he also served as the long standing editor of the Watchman Magazine in Ghana- The Watchman Magazine is a Christian Newspaper focusing on uncovering religious apostasy in the country- a publication that has been in existence for 31 years.
On hearing the sad news, the General Secretary of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa, Rev. Dr. Aiah Foday-Khabenje, on behalf of the Association, assured the widow, Mrs Pauline Kumah, the immediate family and indeed, the Church in Ghana that the body of Christ will keep them in prayers, especially during this period of grieving. He said, “We are comforted in the fact that we live, move and have our being in the Lord (Acts 17:28). Our loss on this side of eternity is our brother’s gain of eternity with Christ in glory”
Glowing tributes to Pastor Divine pouring in from the social media, paint a vivid picture of the man he was. Tse Ambale, Pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ghana, posted this glowing tribute on his timeline. “He was truly the contender for the faith. Through The Watchman magazine which he published for over 30 years, Pastor Divine ventured into territories where even angels feared to tread.” His tribute also highlighted Pastor Divine’s unwavering defence for the gospel, when he posted a comment on Facebook on the 3rd of December 2016 bemoaning exchange of words between Christians on account of the just concluded presidential elections in Ghana.
Pastor Ambale quotes an excerpt of Pastor Divine’s post, “How I wished we can have only a few of so enthused about the gospel as we are about partisan politics! I have read Christians using ugly words at each other because of this election. Shall we all assure you, Jesus’ heart bleeds.”
Pastor Divine, in many tributes is referred to as a true Christian soldier, one of who loved the Lord with every breath, and who devoted his life to soul winning, to his family, and to God’s family.
The AEA General Secretary was particularly saddened, as he had been working with Pastor Divine to revive the rather fledgling NAEG. There were signs of hope for this effort when Divine lead a team of three from Ghana to the last General Assembly of AEA in Zimbabwe. The team’s participation was vibrant and encouraging with a lot of expectation for collaboration and partnership of the church in the region. However, Divine went silent and was down with an inexplicable disease.
“Visiting Divine in June last year, I was left with no doubt about Divine’s perspective, about his faith in Jesus Christ and His redemptive acts. The Cross of Christ not only illumines our hurts, it also heals them. Divine understood the mystery of the Cross; a wonderful place to bring our wounds for healing by the nail-scarred hands of Jesus our Lord.”
Rest in Peace God’s Servant.
