The Evangelical Churches Fellowship of Ethiopia (ECFE) recently implemented an emergency response project in the Abaya District over 400 kilometers from Addis Ababa, the nation’s capital. The East Africa region has been adversely affected by the economic downturn due to COVID 19 and the desert locust infestation. Over 3,150 household heads directly benefited from the program, with about 18,473 individuals recorded as indirect beneficiaries.

The global pandemic and locust infestation has led to an acute food shortage and economic shocks owing to the destruction of their main source of livelihoods. The ECFE intervention has been lauded by local partners within the district for saving both lives and livelihoods. However, there remains a growing need area for peacebuilding, livelihood diversification, environmental protection, emergency food assistance, and other economic recovery resources.
