PROVISION OF RELIEF TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN KENYA’S MUKURU KWA NJENGA SLUM

The Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) in collaboration with the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, visited Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Kayaba, to meet with flood victims. We consoled the affected families were consoled and provision of food to more than 100 households was facilitated. Solar lamps were also given to the victims who are in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.

This humanitarian relief drive was in response to the devastating effects of recent heavy rains in Kenya, which resulted in significant loss of life and property destruction. This campaign was part of the church’s ongoing efforts to aid and alleviate the suffering of communities who have been badly impacted by unfavourable weather and natural disasters.

The relief drive, held in the Salvation Army Kayaba Corps Church, was attended by community residents as well as AEA and EAK authorities. 100 family households received much-needed assistance during these trying times in the shape of solar lamps, rice, and grains.

Leaders from AEA and EAK conducted a brief service to offer spiritual support to the community. The ritual provided a source of comfort and hope for those devastated by the floods.

The religious leaders speaking on behalf of AEA and EAK acknowledged the government’s efforts and made a strong call for prompt help, sufficient compensation and a well-thought-out relocation for the impacted families. The leaders made clear their stand on the evacuation of riparian areas, arguing that such operations should be conducted with consideration and humanity, giving everyone’s safety and dignity first priority. A call was made for more extensive relief efforts that cover every region impacted by the flooding and make sure no community that is particularly vulnerable is left behind.

The Mukuru Kwa Njenga relief effort was a significant step in the right way toward alleviating the community’s suffering following the recent floods. EAK and AEA remain committed in their mission to giving material and spiritual support to our communities during these trying times. We are grateful to our partners and contributors for their continued assistance, which allows us to respond to crises like these promptly and effectively. Your donation is critical to sustaining our objective of supporting and elevating communities across the continent.
